About Me

Online, you can call me “Kiirekass.” This is the name I use online in all sorts of forums. I have been gardening my whole life. From the time I planted seeds from ornamental corn left over from Thanksgiving in my sandbox in New Jersey to my current quarter acre in Washington. My father is my gardening inspiration and I picked up my green thumb from him. I’m a 30-something mother of two toddlers who doesn’t let her husband in the yard- not that he is really interested anyway. Prior to being a stay-at-home-mom, I was a quality assurance professional at various large telecom companies for approximately 10 years. But gardening is my hobby and passion. I can stand at the window for long periods of time just staring at my garden many times a day which is my way of relaxing. I also walk through it once a day visiting with all of my plants- even in the rain. Again, it relaxes me and is therapeutic somehow. Finally, I was a president of the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation for two years (2004-2005) and still volunteer when I can.

About My Garden

My garden is approximately 4 years old in some places and 2 years old in others. I moved in 2 years ago and the previous owners didn’t garden. The garden can be divided into 5 zones, front left which is typical builder installed manicured landscaping with lawn, arborvitae, azaleas, hebe, etc. I added a Japanese Maple and quite a few bulbs, but that’s it. Front right contained no lawn, but a pine and some azaleas. I’ve added a weeping alaska cedar, burning bush, Japanese blood grass, a Japanese maple, some Stella D’oro daylillies and two rhodies.
